The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) and the City of Penticton are working together to improve Emergency Support Services (ESS) for residents across the region. These changes are operational and amount to transitioning the reporting structure from the City of Penticton to the RDOS with no changes to level of service to Penticton residents.

Smoke is visible to the town of Osoyoos, community of Anarchist Mountain, those traveling along Highway 3 and surrounding areas. With warm temperatures forecast in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys over the next several days, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is reminding residents and visitors to stay safe. Extreme heat can be dangerous and it’s important to understand the dangers and be prepared.

Evacuation Order RESCINDED
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has RESCINDED the Evacuation Order issued for Electoral Area “G”. The RESCIND is effective Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 5:00 pm. A geotechnical assessment of the situation was completed this afternoon and determined that the risk of rock fall has returned to previous levels.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has issued an Evacuation Order in Electoral Area “G” (rural Keremeos) due to a rockslide.
A geotechnical assessment of the situation will be conducted to determine next steps. There is currently no timeline on when the Evacuation Order will be rescinded or downgraded to an Evacuation Alert.

TELUS services are currently experiencing a disruption impacting landline phones in Keremeos, Electoral Area “G” due to the rockslide, which may affect your ability to reach emergency (911) services. Power Outage Electoral Area "G" (rural Keremeos)
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is aware of a power outage impacting 114 FortisBC customers. Residents are reminded to use safe practices to stay warm during the outage. Never use charcoal or gas barbecues, camping heating equipment, or home generators indoors.
Ensure your carbon monoxide detector is working and has a battery-power backup if hard-wired to your home’s electrical supply. When using generators, please ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions and is operated outdoors away from doors or windows.

The ALERT area includes Electoral Areas "H" and "F" along the Regional District of Central Okanagan and Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen border from Headwaters Road to Darke Lake Provincial Park, south across Fish Lake Road to the Electrical Power right of way, and northwest to Trout Creek Mainline Road.

The Emergency Reception Centre at Princess Margaret Secondary located at 120 Green Avenue W. in Penticton is open on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The Emergency Reception Centre has been activated to provide Emergency Support Services (ESS) to all British Columbians whose primary residence is on Evacuation ORDER.

The Emergency Reception Centre is moving to Princess Margaret Secondary at 120 Green Avenue W. in Penticton to provide Emergency Support Services (ESS) to those in need. The Reception Centre is scheduled to open at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has issued an Evacuation ALERT for 12 properties in Electoral Areas “B” and “G”, effective Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 5:00 pm due to the Crater Creek wildfire (K52125) and Gillanders Creek wildfire (K51680).
The ALERT covers the area along the Ashnola River in the Cathedral Provincial Park including Cathedral Lakes Lodge and the Snowy Protected Area.

Pursuant to Section 13 (1) of the BC Emergency Program Act an Evacuation Order has been issued by Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and Town of Osoyoos to protect the health, safety or welfare of a person or to limit damage to property due to the threat of a wildfire. Members of the RCMP and other agencies under the direction of RCMP will be expediting this action.
The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following areas:

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) and the Town of Osoyoos have issued an Evacuation ALERT for 732 properties in Electoral Area “A” and “B” and the Town of Osoyoos due to the Lone Pine Creek wildfire.
The Alert covers the area north of the Canada/U.S. border to the intersection of Hwy #97 and Hwy #3, west and north along Hwy #3. Please note this wildfire is listed as the Eagle Bluff Fire by the Washington State Deparment of Natural Resources.

People urged to stay vigilant as wildfire, drought risk remains severe
Despite scattered showers throughout much of the province on Monday, July 24, 2023, the province of B.C. is encouraging people to be prepared and continue to follow all regional fire prohibitions and local water restrictions due to extreme wildfire risks and the ongoing drought.
Category 2 and category 3 fire prohibitions to start in Kamloops Fire Centre
KAMLOOPS – Effective at 12:00 pm (noon) PDT on Thursday, May 18, 2023, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, as well as other equipment and activities will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
This prohibition will remain in effect until 12:00 pm (noon) PDT on Oct. 13, 2023, or until the order is rescinded. Anyone conducting Category 2 or Category 3 open fires within the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction must extinguish those fires by the noon deadline on May 18, 2023.

The Evacuation Alert issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) on Friday, May 5, 2023, remains in effect for 75 properties in Electoral Area “D” due to the threat of flooding from Shuttleworth Creek in Okanagan Falls. The RDOS will continue monitoring Shuttleworth Creek and will rescind the Evacuation Alert when conditions change.

The Regional District is reminding residents and property owners to begin preparing for spring freshet. The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the South Interior, which includes the Okanagan watershed due to above-normal temperatures forecast through this weekend. High flows, including potential flooding is possible.

The Regional District is looking for direct feedback from RDOS rural residents to help determine the service delivery needs and funding structure for future emergency programming.

The community focus groups will investigate the public’s perception of how the emergency program is working now, where it needs to go, and what can be done to close the gap. The RDOS is looking for direct feedback from residents to help determine the service delivery needs and funding structure for future emergency programming.

The Evacuation Order issued on Monday, January 16, 2023, for one property located at 3169-10th Avenue (Eagle RV Park and Campground) in Electoral Area “G” (Rural Keremeos) is scheduled to be rescinded on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 10:00 am.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has received a Geotechnical Assessment conducted on the slope where the rock fall occurred. The report, which was prepared for the RDOS by Ecora Engineering & Resource Group Ltd., provides information to assist property owners and residents in making an informed decision about next steps.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is awaiting the final engineering report on a rockslide in Electoral Area “G” (Rural Keremeos). A summary indicates there is still risk to life due to cooling and warming temperatures creating an opportunity for freeze-thaw conditions that could contribute to further rock fall.
The Evacuation Order issued on Monday, January 16, 2023, remains in effect for one property located at 3169-10th Avenue (Eagle RV Park and Campground) in Electoral Area “G”. Please continue to monitor RDOS web and social media channels for the latest updates. If risks increase for surrounding properties, the RDOS will issue additional Evacuation Alerts or Orders.
The Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre will re-open at Victory Hall, 427-7th Avenue in Keremeos on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The reception centre is being activated to assist evacuees who require a renewal of support services. Evacuees can visit the reception centre in Keremeos or call RDOS ESS at 250-486-1890.
EOC Update: rockslide in Electoral Area “G” (Rural Keremeos) Thursday, January 19, 2023, 10:00 am
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is working with engineers to prepare a report on a rockslide in Electoral Area “G” (Rural Keremeos). The rockslide occurred on Monday, January 16, 2023, and sent rocks over Highway 3 and into 3169-10th Avenue. No injuries were reported.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, a technical team requested by the RDOS joined experts from the province (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure) to assess the slide area. The risk assessment for the impacted property is still underway.

Smoke impacts continue due to local wildfires as well as those in Washington and Idaho. Higher impacts are expected closer to wildfire activity. Strong winds today may cause changes in wildfire behaviour, though may also help clear smoky conditions.

Interior Health heat warning guidance
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued heat warnings starting tomorrow for various regions in Interior Health, including the South and Central Okanagan, North and South Thompson and Fraser Canyon. Temperatures up to 40 degrees are forecast in many of these areas. Interior Health is reminding people that elevated temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illness.

EOC Update: TELUS planned outage August 13, 2022, 4:00 pm
TELUS phone, cell phone and internet users in the south Similkameen will have planned service disruptions sometime between 10:00 pm on Saturday August 13, 2022 to 6:00 am Sunday morning. TELUS service disruptions will impact properties and residents in the Village of Keremeos, Cawston in Electoral Areas B, Olalla, Hedley and rural Keremeos in Electoral Area G and the Apex Mountain area in Electoral Area I.
As this planned disruption impacts the ability to access 911 emergency services for TELUS customers, residents that cannot access phone or cell phone services are directed to the Osoyoos RCMP, Keremeos fire station and Hedley fire station for emergency services.
Other companies that provide phone, cell phone or internet services are not intended to be disrupted by the TELUS service disruption.

Road restrictions and active flagging operations are in place on Highway 3 south of Cawston due to a new wildfire. Smoke may reduce visibility and drivers are asked to slow down, drive carefully, and watch for crews and equipment.

Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centres in the City of Penticton and Village of Keremeos will be closed Friday, August 12, 2022. Residents requiring ESS assistance can call 250-486-1890.
Emergency Support Services are supported by local emergency programs but primarily staffed by volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with your local ESS team, please contact the RDOS ESS program at 250-486-1890.
EOC Update: Evacuation Order RESCINDED and placed under Evacuation Alert for Olalla, BC along Hwy 3A August 11, 2022, 10:00 am
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has rescinded the Evacuation Orders for the community of Olalla in Electoral Area “G” at 10:00 am Thursday August 11, 2022. The Olalla area will remain on Evacuation Alert.
Highway 3A will remain closed. Local traffic only. RCMP members are patrolling the area. Checkpoints will remain in place to ensure only residents or property owners access the Olalla area.
Firefighters will be active along Highway 3A to monitor spot fires and protect homes.
Smoke may reduce visibility and residents are asked to slow down, drive carefully, and watch for crews and equipment.

EOC Update: Evacuation Order and Alert RESCINDED along selected properties along Hwy 3A 10:00 am August 10, 2022
Evacuation Orders have been rescinded for properties from Twin Lakes to just north of Olalla. This includes selected properties accessing homes along Sheep Creek Rd. Highway 3A will remain closed for through traffic. Check points have been established along Highway 3A to restrict traffic to only local traffic accessing properties on Evacuation Alert. Due to the threat of wildfire, these properties will remain on Evacuation Alert.
The communities of Olalla, Apex and sections of Green Mountain Rd remain on Evacuation Order.
The Evacuation Alert for the Twin Lakes area and White Lake Road has been removed.

The City of Penticton ESS Reception Centre at Princess Margaret Secondary School at 120 Green Ave, Penticton is closed Sunday but will reopen at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday August 8, 2022.

Be prepared for risk of wildfires over the long weekend
Sustained high temperatures throughout British Columbia this week are increasing the potential for wildfires. Residents, travellers and campers should be prepared for wildfire and heat, to have an emergency plan and to stay informed as conditions change.
Interior Health heat warning guidance
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued heat warnings across Interior Health this week, with temperatures expected to soar as high as 40 degrees in a number of communities. With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat-related illness increases.
The BC Centre of Disease Control provides a broad range of heat-related guidance on its website, including information on the different types of heat alerts, how to prepare for hot temperatures, symptoms of heat-related illnesses, those most at risk during hot weather and ways to stay cool.
Stay safe during extreme heat
With warm temperatures forecast in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys over the next several days, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is reminding residents and visitors to stay safe by drinking plenty of water, staying cool, and following the recommendations from Health Canada. Removal of sand and sandbags
The 2022 spring freshet has subsided, and the RDOS Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is in the process of removing sand and sandbags throughout the region. For further information, please visit the resources tab at emergency.rdos.bc.ca or call the EOC at 250-490-4225.
Stay safe and cool outdoors during extreme heat
- Lower your activity level. If you must do errands, do them early or late in the day when it’s cooler.
- Protect yourself from the sun by staying in the shade, avoiding direct sun mid-day, wearing a hat and protective clothing, using sunscreen, and wearing UV-protective eyewear.
- Seek cooler, breezier areas when outdoors, such as large parks near the water with lots of trees.
- Never leave children or pets in a parked car.
Category 2 open fire prohibitions to start in Kamloops Fire Centre
Effective at 12:00 pm (noon) on Friday, July 15, 2022, Category 2 open fires as well as other equipment and activities will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. These prohibitions are in addition to the Category 3 open fire prohibition implemented on June 30, 2022, and are being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
These prohibitions will remain in effect until noon on Oct. 15, 2022, or until the orders are rescinded. Anyone conducting Category 2 open fires within the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction must extinguish those fires by the July 15 deadline.

High Streamflow Advisory – South Interior

The River Forecast Centre is issuing a High Streamflow Advisory for:
- Okanagan including Mission Creek and tributaries east of Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and surrounding areas
- Boundary including West Kettle River, Kettle River, Granby River and surrounding tributaries
- Similkameen River including the Tulameen River and surrounding tributaries
Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA)
After a disaster, the provincial government may declare the event eligible for Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA). Once declared, the DFA program may provide applicants with financial assistance for essential uninsurable losses.
EOC Update: Evacuation Alert issued for Electoral Area H (Coalmont, Tulameen)
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has issued an Evacuation Alert for properties in Electoral Area H within the communities of Coalmont and Tulameen.
Due to increased erosion of floodworks on the Tulameen River, particularly between Tulameen River Road and Coalmont, the province is undertaking works to repair Shatford Dike. On that assessment, Emergency Management BC (EMBC) has approved an Expense Authorization Request to complete the works and the Ministry of Forests has approved the works in the river. The works are expected to be complete by the end of next week.
The RDOS EOC continues to monitor water levels across the region. Sand and sandbags are available at the locations and listed below and on the interactive map. An informational video on how to prepare sandbags is available, along with more preparedness tips at https://emergency.rdos.bc.ca

The RDOS Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is reminding residents and property owners in low-lying areas or adjacent to Tulameen River, Otter Creek, and Otter Lake, to be proactive and remove personal items that may be damaged by high ground water or flooding. You may also want to consider sandbagging your property if it is located in a low-lying area.

The RDOS is reminding residents and property owners to prepare now for potential flooding. Continued cool weather is increasing the risk of flooding if a prolonged heatwave occurs over the next few weeks.
RDOS continues to monitor water levels in Tulameen area
The RDOS Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is monitoring run off in the Electoral Area H communities of Tulameen and Coalmont. Residents are encouraged to be prepared for high water and take necessary steps to protect their homes and property.
Use caution around streams, lakes and rivers where water levels may be rising or fast moving. Keep clear of eroded banks. Emergency preparedness also includes having a plan to ensure your family and pet’s needs are considered before an unexpected event occurs.
Property owners in low-lying areas may want to consider sandbagging their property. Sand and sandbags are available at the Tulameen Fire Hall and Coalmont Satellite Fire Hall. An instructional video of how-to sandbag is available. Sandbag locations are also listed on the interactive sandbag map.
RDOS conducting flooding survey
The RDOS is committed to conducting an After Action Review (AAR) to document lessons learned, provide recommendations to enhance operations and emergency response capacity, and complete an action plan to address issues that arose during the November 2021 flood response. Survey questions are related to initial flood response, including notifications, Evacuation Alerts and Orders, and support provided during the initial days of the event. British Columbians urged to prepare for floods, wildfires
To prepare for this year’s spring freshet and wildfire seasons, the Province is urging caution and encouraging people to prepare for these hazards.
British Columbians can take steps to better protect their homes and financial security by buying flood and fire insurance, and can take further action to minimize the potential for damage when flooding is forecast or wildfire threat is high.

Prescribed burns scheduled near Penticton
BC Wildfire Service and Penticton Indian Band plan to conduct two prescribed burns in the south Okanagan with support from the Okanagan Shuswap Resource District. Preparation work for these prescribed burns could start as early as March 14, 2022. However, the burns likely won’t occur until after March 28, 2022. The exact timing of the burns will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions. Ignition will proceed only if conditions are suitable and will allow for quick smoke dissipation.

The imminent threat from the flooding due to the atmospheric event in November and the ice jams in December has passed. All evacuation orders and alerts issued between November and December 2021 have been rescinded. Continued supports are available, and if you have experienced flooding previously, now is the time to consider creating a flooding plan to be prepared for Spring freshet.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has indicated warmer temperatures will be present over the next several days, with the possibility of precipitation. If you live near a waterway, please take steps to protect yourself and your property. The EOC will continue to monitor this event and provide further information as required.
Sand and sandbags are available for residents to protect their property from potential flooding. Additional sandbag locations will be in place on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

Canadian Red Cross transitioning to provide Emergency Support Services
Starting Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the request of Emergency Management BC (EMBC), the Canadian Red Cross will be providing Emergency Support Services (ESS) to eligible households impacted by the floods.
Please be aware:
- The existing ESS support system will come to a close on the Wednesday, December 15, 2021. If you are currently receiving ESS support this will not be available effective 12:01 am on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
- The Canadian Red Cross will take over support for those who have registered with them.
What to do:
- The first step to access this financial assistance is to register with the Canadian Red Cross by calling 1-800-863-6582, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm PST.
- Registration can be done in person at the Princeton & District Community Skills Centre located at 206 Vermillion Avenue Open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm daily.
- If you are registering with the Canadian Red Cross or verifying your registration information, please ensure you bring correct verification ID.
- A new Red Cross Facility to register in person will be available on Thursday December 16, 2021 between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Tulameen Community Centre.

The public is advised to stay clear of the fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high-streamflow period. Many bridges, highways, roads and dykes are compromised, washed out or highly stressed. Please do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Do not use backcountry or Forest Service Roads, they may be eroded and their stability cannot be guaranteed. If you must travel, check drivebc.ca for the latest updates.

A Flood Watch advisory has also been issued for the Similkameen River in Electoral Area H. A Flood Watch advisory means riverbanks are nearing full and may result in flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is advising anyone remaining within an Evacuation Order zone in the Tulameen area of Electoral Area H to leave their properties immediately.
Residents within the Evacuation Alert area of Tulameen and Coalmont should be prepared to leave their properties in a moment’s notice. If river levels continue to rise, seek out higher ground. The Evacuation Alert may be upgraded to an Evacuation Order at any time, and you should be prepared to leave your property immediately.

The River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch advisory for the Tulameen River and Similkameen River.
River levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur. Rain and accompanying snow melt are expected now through Wednesday, December 1, 2021. High winds may accompany these storms on the BC Coast and parts of the BC Interior.
The River Forecast Centre may issue a Flood Warning advisory should weather conditions deteriorate. Flood Warning means that river levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.
Preparing for rising water levels
- Move equipment and other materials to higher ground.
- Protect your valuables in waterproof containers. Empty crawlspaces if possible.
- Raise large appliances in the basement above the potential water level from a flood.
- Find your floor drain and make sure nothing is covering it like boxes, furniture or carpet.
- Check that your roof and eavestroughs are draining properly in heavy rains and that downspouts are directed well away from your home.
- Clean leaves, garbage, ice and other debris away from the storm drains near your home.
- Buy or make an emergency kit, and keep it stocked. Families should be prepared to be self-sustaining for at least three days.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic also add hygiene items such as hand sanitizer and non-medical masks to your kit to keep your family safe during an evacuation.

Based on available information, including weather advisories, areas prone to flooding may flood again as the weather changes. Evacuation Alerts along the Similkameen River and Tulameen River are in place to advise residents of the potential dangers of slope instability near the rivers. Properties located at higher elevations have not been identified as areas of immediate concern.
Evacuation Alerts are issued out of an abundance of caution based on recommendations by subject matter experts.

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation ORDER has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to immediate danger to life and property due to flooding along the Similkameen River in Electoral Area H, evacuation of property in Schedule 1 is to commence immediately.
RCMP will be expediting this action.

Three atmospheric rivers forecast to affect BC over the next seven days and have been consistently forecast.
Event duration: Thursday, November 25 to Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
High winds may accompany these storms on the BC Coast and parts of the BC Interior.
Since many areas of BC still have flooding and are still in recovery from the November 13-15 storm, further impacts can occur with less rain and wind than normal.
Refer to Environment Canada and River Forecast Centre alerts, including special weather statements and warnings over the next week.

Transport Canada Area Restrictions
An interim restriction respecting certain flooded areas in British Columbia for all watercraft vessels has been issued by Transport Canada, including the areas of the Similkameen River and waters over the floodplains along Crowsnest Highway, from south of Hedley to the U.S. border, and Tulameen River and the waters over the floodplains in the vicinity of the village of Tulameen.
Rapid Damage Assessment teams are visiting properties in the region including Tulameen and Coalmont in Electoral Area H (Rural Princeton) as well as the Town of Princeton. Re-entry kits and information are being distributed directly to properties impacted by flooding. The RDOS Emergency Operations Centre is working with the Town of Princeton and partner agencies to identify and dispatch professional services including electrical, gas, and restoration.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is actively working with provincial agencies and responders to assess flooded communities across the region.
The RDOS is currently conducting risk assessments of properties in Tulameen and Coalmont. The assessments include checking homes and driveways watching for potential dangers such as fallen or unstable trees, damaged gas and power lines, and water and sewage contamination.

Many bridges, highways, roads and dykes are compromised, washed out or highly stressed. Please do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Do not visit flooding sites or high water areas or river systems for any reason. Do not use backcountry or Forest Service Roads, they may be eroded and their stability cannot be guaranteed.

2021 Wildfire Response - Emergency Support Services and Recovery Support Update
Emergency Support Services support will be ending as of November 30, 2021. At the request of Emergency Management British Columbia (EMBC), Canadian Red Cross will provide households who have been unable to return home following the 2021 B.C. Fires with financial assistance to support their interim housing needs during their recovery.
Smoke from Pile Burning to be Visible in Naramata Area
The BC Wildfire Service is planning to burn about 150 piles of wood debris in an area near the Arawana Forest Service Road, about five kilometres east of Naramata. The burns are scheduled to start on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, and will be concluded by Thursday, March 31, 2022.
Pile burning for Wildfire Risk Reduction Projects in Penticton area
The BC Wildfire Service, in conjunction with Okanagan Shuswap Resource District and Penticton Indian Band, plans to burn approximately 1,100 piles of wood debris in several locations throughout the Penticton Fire Zone as part of fuels management projects intended to reduce the wildfire hazard present in the Penticton area.

EOC Update: PIB Evacuation Alert remains in effect, Shrike Hill evacuees fridge/freezer pick up
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is in regular communication with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), Penticton Indian Band (PIB) and the City of Penticton to monitor the status of the Skaha Creek wildfire.
An Evacuation Alert was issued by the PIB EOC on Monday, August 30, 2021 remains in effect.
Residents in the Shrike Hill area who were on Evacuation Order and need to dispose of refrigerators and/or freezers should have these items to the curb for collection by 8:00 am on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Fridges and freezers must be empty and clean.
Penticton Indian Band issues Evacuation Alert for Skaha Creek wildfire effective August 30 2021 at 3:30 pm
The Penticton Indian Band Council has authorized an Evacuation Alert for properties in Skaha Hills, Riva Ridge, Holiday Hills RV Resort, as well as in the PIB Lower Village south of Shingle Creek effective August 30, 2021 at 3:30 pm.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is sharing that in order to assist farmers and ranchers with displaced commercial livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Fisheries (MOAFF), with support from Emergency Management BC (EMBC), has developed an Emergency Feed Program to provide up to 14 days of hay to qualified farm operations.

As heat continues to build in the Interior, rising temperatures will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.
Excessive heat exposure can lead to weakness, disorientation and exhaustion. In severe cases, it can also lead to heat stroke, also known as sunstroke. Heat stroke can be a life-threatening medical emergency.

As wildfire activity moves further away from interface areas, evacuated residents and property owners will be advised when it is safe to return home. Do not return home before you have been advised by officials that it is safe to do. Obey all signs and detours upon returning, these have been designated as safe routes. PreparedBC offers resources and information about what to expect when you return home from a wildfire.
RDOS transitions from CivicReady to Voyent Alert! in December 2021
The CivicReady mass notification system used by the RDOS will no longer be able to support its Canadian clients or continue to maintain a Canadian database, as of November 2021. Once the current contract with CivicReady expires at the end of November 2021, the RDOS will be transitioning to the Canadian-based company Voyent Alert!
CivicReady users will be sent reminder notifications prior to the change in service providers.

Area Restriction in effect for Garrison Lake wildfire (K62088)
The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Garrison Lake wildfire (K62088) . The area, near Manning Park, is popular for outdoor recreation. In the interest of public and responder safety, this restriction is effective immediately and will remain in place until October 15, 2021, or until it is rescinded.

Evacuees who are under Evacuation Order for 10 days or longer may qualify for a one-time payment of $1,200. The B.C. government is teaming up with the Canadian Red Cross to provide B.C. households impacted by wildfire with a one-time payment of $1,200.

Area Restriction in effect for Nk’Mip Creek wildfire
The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Nk’Mip Creek wildfire (K52061). This area restriction reflects the continued need to protect the public in areas where ongoing fire suppression activities are taking place and to avoid interference with fire control.
EOC Update: Thomas Creek and Brenda Creek Wildfire Status
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) continues to work with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) to monitor the Thomas Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D, and Brenda Creek wildfire in Electoral Area H.
Both fires are listed as interface fires on the BCWS website and Evacuation Alerts remain in place for 704 properties in Electoral Area D, and 42 properties are under Evacuation Order in Electoral Area H.

EOC Update: Evacuation ORDER issued for Electoral Area C - July 19, 10:30 pm
Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation ORDER has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to immediate danger to life safety due to the Shrike Hill wildfire in Electoral Area C. The wildfire is currently located on Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) land approximately six (6) km north of Osoyoos, but moving rapidly north into the Regional District boundary.
RCMP and Search & Rescue will be expediting notifications and enforcement.

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to the Inkaneep Creek wildfire in Electoral Area C and the Town of Oliver for lands within the boundary of the town.
An Evacuation Alert prepares residents to evacuate the area should an Evacuation Order be issued. As much advance notice as possible will be provided prior to an Evacuation Order, however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

EOC Update: FortisBC encourages decreasing energy consumption during Nk’Mip Creek wildfire.
FortisBC crews are in Osoyoos supporting local emergency services personnel as they respond to the Nk’Mip wildfire.
While the system is stable, FortisBC has de-energized parts of their electricity system. For this reason, customers in Osoyoos and surrounding areas are asked to reduce their energy use during peak hours of from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm until further notice.
Some examples of how you can reduce your energy use include:
- Cooking outdoors on barbeques, if possible
- Washing dishes by hand or setting dishwasher timers to run in the middle of the night
- Running laundry later in the evening
- Reduce air conditioning use
