An Evacuation Alert issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) on August 29, 2021 in the area of Kennedy Lake and Whipsaw in Electoral Area H has now been RESCINDED to ALL CLEAR.

There are no properties on Evacuation Alert in the RDOS due to the Garrison Lake wildfire.

An Evacuation Alert for the Hedges Butte wildfire issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) on Friday, September 3, 2021 remains in effect. Residents and property owners can pre-register with ESS by visiting https://ess.gov.bc.ca or calling 1-800-585-9559.

Kennedy Lake remains on Evacuation Alert due to the Garrison Lake wildfire.

EOC Update: Evacuation ALERT issued for Electoral Area I Sept. 3, 2021 5:00 pm

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation ALERT has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) for 47 properties due to the Hedges Butte wildfire in Electoral Area I, located southwest of the community of Farleigh Lake. An Evacuation Alert prepares residents to evacuate the area should an Evacuation Order be issued.

EOC Update: PIB Evacuation Alert remains in effect, Shrike Hill evacuees fridge/freezer pick up

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is in regular communication with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), Penticton Indian Band (PIB) and the City of Penticton to monitor the status of the Skaha Creek wildfire.

An Evacuation Alert was issued by the PIB EOC on Monday, August 30, 2021 remains in effect

Residents in the Shrike Hill area who were on Evacuation Order and need to dispose of refrigerators and/or freezers should have these items to the curb for collection by 8:00 am on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Fridges and freezers must be empty and clean.

Penticton Indian Band issues Evacuation Alert for Skaha Creek wildfire effective August 30 2021 at 3:30 pm

The Penticton Indian Band Council has authorized an Evacuation Alert for properties in Skaha Hills, Riva Ridge, Holiday Hills RV Resort, as well as in the PIB Lower Village south of Shingle Creek effective August 30, 2021 at 3:30 pm.

The City of Penticton activated its Emergency Operations Centre to prepare to support the response to the Skaha Creek Wildfire.

Penticton Indian Band issued an Evacuation Alert effective August 30, 2021 at 3:30 pm.

There are no Evacuation Alerts or Orders being considered for the City of Penticton at this time.

EOC Update: Evacuation Order RESCIND Garrison Lake wildfire, Electoral Area H August 29, 2021 3:00 pm

An Evacuation Order issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) in the Garrison Lake area of Electoral Area H issued on August 14, 2021, is RESCINDED for all addresses in Eastgate and Placer Creek. Properties within Eastgate and Place Creek move to all clear.

Properties within Kennedy Lake and Whipsaw Creek (placed on Evacuation Order on August 15, 2021), will be placed on Evacuation Alert.

EOC Update: Emergency Feed Program available for qualified farm operations

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is sharing that in order to assist farmers and ranchers with displaced commercial livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Fisheries (MOAFF), with support from Emergency Management BC (EMBC), has developed an Emergency Feed Program to provide up to 14 days of hay to qualified farm operations.

Interior Health heat warning reminders August 11, 2021

As heat continues to build in the Interior, rising temperatures will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.

Excessive heat exposure can lead to weakness, disorientation and exhaustion. In severe cases, it can also lead to heat stroke, also known as sunstroke. Heat stroke can be a life-threatening medical emergency.

RDOS transitions from CivicReady to Voyent Alert! in December 2021

The CivicReady mass notification system used by the RDOS will no longer be able to support its Canadian clients or continue to maintain a Canadian database, as of November 2021. Once the current contract with CivicReady expires at the end of November 2021, the RDOS will be transitioning to the Canadian-based company Voyent Alert!

CivicReady users will be sent reminder notifications prior to the change in service providers.

Area Restriction in effect for Garrison Lake wildfire (K62088)

The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Garrison Lake wildfire (K62088) . The area, near Manning Park, is popular for outdoor recreation. In the interest of public and responder safety, this restriction is effective immediately and will remain in place until October 15, 2021, or until it is rescinded.

Area Restriction in effect for Nk’Mip Creek wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Nk’Mip Creek wildfire (K52061). This area restriction reflects the continued need to protect the public in areas where ongoing fire suppression activities are taking place and to avoid interference with fire control.

EOC Update: Evacuation ORDER issued for Electoral Area H July 24, 2021 8:00 pm

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, the Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen, hereby orders that due to immediate danger to life and property due to the Garrison Lake wildfire in Electoral Area H, evacuation of two (2) properties in Schedule 1 is to commence immediately.

RCMP and Search and Rescue will be expediting this action.

Due to recent changes regarding the Nk’Mip Creek wildfire, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) will be holding a live wildfire information news briefing today (Thursday, July 22) at 3:00 pm.

EOC Update: State of Local Emergency declared for Electoral Area A July 20, 2021

EOC Update: FortisBC encourages decreasing energy consumption during Nk’Mip Creek wildfire.

FortisBC crews are in Osoyoos supporting local emergency services personnel as they respond to the Nk’Mip wildfire.

While the system is stable, FortisBC has de-energized parts of their electricity system. For this reason, customers in Osoyoos and surrounding areas are asked to reduce their energy use during peak hours of from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm until further notice.

Some examples of how you can reduce your energy use include:

  • Cooking outdoors on barbeques, if possible
  • Washing dishes by hand or setting dishwasher timers to run in the middle of the night
  • Running laundry later in the evening
  • Reduce air conditioning use

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) advises that due to the Inkaneep Creek wildfire in Electoral Area C and the potential threat to life and property a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) has been issued.

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to the Inkaneep Creek wildfire in Electoral Area C and the Town of Oliver for lands within the boundary of the town.

An Evacuation Alert prepares residents to evacuate the area should an Evacuation Order be issued. As much advance notice as possible will be provided prior to an Evacuation Order, however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

EOC Update: Evacuation ORDER issued for Electoral Area C - July 19, 10:30 pm

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation ORDER has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to immediate danger to life safety due to the Shrike Hill wildfire in Electoral Area C.  The wildfire is currently located on Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) land approximately six (6) km north of Osoyoos, but moving rapidly north into the Regional District boundary.

RCMP and Search & Rescue will be expediting notifications and enforcement.

Both fires are listed as interface fires on the BCWS website and Evacuation Alerts remain in place for 704 properties in Electoral Area D, and 42 properties are under Evacuation Order in Electoral Area H.

EOC Update: Evacuation Alert due to the Brenda Creek wildfire in Electoral Area H

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to the Brenda Creek wildfire south of Brenda Mine in Electoral Area H.

The Evacuation Alert zone within the RDOS includes Eneas Lakes Provincial Park. There are no properties or parcels sited within the Evacuation Alert zone. 


In order to assist with BCWS crew operations, road closures are in effect at the following locations:

  • Intersection of Trout Creek Forest Service Road and Princeton-Summerland Road
  • Intersection of Headwaters Road and Brenda Mine Road
  • Intersection of Sunset Road and Highway 97C

Search and Rescue and RCMP members have been deployed to conduct Evacuation ORDERS for the community of Headwaters, in Electoral Area H due to the Brenda Creek wildfire. The RDOS continues to monitor the situation and work with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). Please avoid camping or recreational activities near the area.

Thomas Creek Wildfire Area Restriction Issued by BC Wildfire Service

An area restriction has been issued by the BC Wildfire Service regarding the Thomas Creek. This order will remain in place until noon on October 15, 2021 or until it is rescinded.

The RDOS advises that the Thomas Creek Wildfire Evacuation Order for 77 properties issued on July 11, 2021 has been Rescinded. The area previously under Evacuation Order is now on Evacuation Alert. All 627 properties previously under Evacuation Alert will remain under Evacuation Alert.

A Smoky Skies Bulletin has been issued for multiple regions across the province including the Okanagan. People with pre-existing health conditions are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, campfires, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the province of British Columbia. This includes all pubic and private lands within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS).

Heat stroke can be a life-threatening medical emergency.

Prepare for Spring freshet

Property owners are reminded to take appropriate measures to protect their property and buildings from potential rising waters and drainage issues. Taking proactive measures and assessing property and buildings for drainage issues before freshet begins is a proactive measure residents can take to help prevent or minimize potential damage. Now is the time to prepare if you live in vulnerable areas, on or near floodplains, or if you have experienced spring flooding previously. Report flooding or depleted sand or sandbags to the EOC. Please see the links below for current information about freshet conditions in the region.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) continues to provide information and support to residents impacted by the Christie Mountain Wildfire.

For properties in the area, there is no imminent wildfire threat at this time. Please be aware of equipment and crews in the area. Boaters on Skaha Lake are asked to stay clear of aircraft conducting wildfire operations. BC Wildfire Service is still working in the area and spot fires and smoke may be visible

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has RESCINDED the Evacuation Alert for 319 properties issued on August 25, 2020, in Heritage Hills in Electoral Area “D”. 
The State of Local Emergency issued on August 18, 2020 and extended on August 25, 2020, for Electoral Area “D” is now cancelled.

Evacuation ALERT issued for 116 properties issued on August 18, 2020, in the Upper Carmi area and Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park has been lifted.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) has removed 244 propeties under the Heritage Hills Evacuation Order area and are allowed to return home. These properties will remain under an Evacuation Alert.

The 75 properties accessed via Christie Mountain Lane and Bighorn Trail remain under Evacuation Order.

The Evacuation Alert issued for 116 properties for Upper Carmi Area and Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park has been lifted.

EOC Update: August 24 2020 2pm Re-entry plans underway for residents under Evacuation Order

Re-entry plans are being finalized by Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) staff to provide residents under Evacuation Order in Heritage Hills (Electoral Area "D") safe access to return to their homes. The Evacuation Order and Alert are still in effect and wildfire crews and equipment remain in the area. Once the area has been deemed safe for re-entry, residents will have access to their homes in a staged approach.

EOC Update: News Conference at 12:00 p.m. at 21 Lakeshore Drive Penticton

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) and the City of Penticton will host a joint news conference today at 12:00 pm to provide an update on the Christie Mountain Wildfire. Representatives from the RDOS and the City of Penticton will be in attendance to provide updates and answer questions. Media are invited to attend the news conference which will take place inside the Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre at 21 Lakeshore Drive, Penticton, BC. Any media that attend in person are encouraged to wear a mask and follow requirements for physical distancing.

EOC Update: Aug 24, 2020 7:00 am Evacuation Order Heritage Hills

Re-entry plans are being finalized to provide residents under Evacuation Order in Heritage Hills (Electoral Area "D") safe access to return to their homes. Wildfire crews and equipment remain in the area. 

Geotechnical work is underway and crews are working to ensure the safety of homes, driveways and retaining walls as well as critical infrastructure including gas, power and water lines. Trees and other potential dangers must also be assessed.The objective is to return people as soon as possible. The RDOS is working closely with BC Parks to ensure the safety and security of Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park. 

The Evacuation Order will remain in place until further notice to ensure public safety.

The City of Penticton will hold a short media briefing today at 12:00 pm on the status of the Christie Mountain Wildfire and associated evacuation alert impacting 3669 Penticton properties. Representatives of the RDOS will be available to answer questions from the media. The media briefing will take place at Penticton Fire Hall 1 – 250 Nanaimo Ave.

August 22 - EOC Update:   

An EVACUATION ORDER remains in effect for 319 properties in the Heritage Hills area south of Penticton in Electoral Area “D” in the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to the Christie Mountain Wildfire.  Roadblocks remain in place within the Regional District. Roadblocks are in place to ensure that the Fire Fighters have unobstructed and safe access to these areas. A reminder to stay clear of the affected areas.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), is your primary source for the most up-to-date  information for current Evacuation Orders, for where Emergency Support Services (ESS) for residents in the RDOS are available. While the Evacuation Orders are still in effect, you will be provided support.

 

Christie Mountain wildfire evacuees who need to renew support services and are still relocated within the Penticton area, please go to the Reception Center at 199 Ellis St. Penticton, between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

 

Christie Mountain wildfire evacuees who need to renew support services and are relocated outside the Penticton area should contact Emergency Support Services (ESS) at 250-490-4225 between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.  After Hours please leave a message and ESS will get back to you within 1 business day.

At this, the Evacuation Centre is located at 199 Ellis St. is open between 9:00 am and 6:00pm.

ESS can help if you:

  • Need to renew any services
  • Are incapacitated and need assistance with leaving your home under an Evacuation Alert (self-evacuation) or Evacuation Order
  • Need to find out if you are eligible to receive support services

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) and the City of Penticton will host a joint news conference today at 12:00 pm to provide an update on the Christie Mountain Wildfire. Representatives from the BC Wildfire Service, the RDOS and the City of Penticton will be in attendance to provide updates and answer questions. Media are welcome to attend the news conference which will take place at the Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre (Salon C) at 21 Lakeshore Drive, Penticton, BC. Any media that attend in person are encouraged to wear a mask and follow protocols for social distancing. The City and RDOS are introducing additional technology at today’s event to improve the audio available. Media will have access to a press box with a direct feed from the podium microphone.

Only representatives with the media will be allowed to attend in person. Residents can watch the news conference live through the City of Penticton’s Facebook account (@cityofpenticton). A video recording will be posted to the RDOS and City of Penticton YouTube channels following the news conference.

BC Wildfire Service Update: Christie Mountain Wildfire

August 20, 2020 9:38 pm: An increased amount of structural protection teams will be stationed throughout the community starting tomorrow morning to perform assessments and proactively triage infrastructure. This action is a precautionary measure to mitigate risk to homes in the area ahead of an approaching weather system that may cause challenging fire behaviour.

9:00 pm August 18, 2020 - Evacuation Alert for Upper Carmi

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC). The Regional EOC has placed 116 civic addresses in Upper Carmi area and one home north of Heritage Hills on Eastside Rd under Evacuation Alert due to a wildfire. Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park is also under Evacuation Alert.

An Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare residents, businesses and visitors to evacuate their premises or property in the event an Evacuation Order is issued. The RDOS EOC is working with BC Wildfire to assess the situation. Property owners will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order, however residents may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

Residents and property owners are strongly advised to take proactive measures to prepare for an Evacuation Order. Please see the information listed below.

Category 2 and category 3 fire prohibitions to start in Kamloops Fire Centre

Effective at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, as well as other equipment and activities will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
